Mar 19, 2024 - Powering Up to Solve Challenges in Energy Storage Since the mid-2000`s, PNNL has tackled some of the most important energy storage challenges by leveraging deep roots and long history in materials science research. Today, PNNL is leading several major energy storage programs for the Department of Energy. This work has had many scientific breakthroughs including efforts to address battery longevity, capacity, cold weather performance, and improved technologies from lithium-ion and lithium-metal batteries, along with breakthroughs on flow and sodium-ion batteries.
