Oct 15, 2026 - China`s largest integrated solar-hydrogen-storage project operational

China`s largest integrated solar-hydrogen-storage initiative—the Guohua Rudong project—has officially connected its energy storage component to the grid in the tidal flat region of Rudong, Jiangsu Province. Boasting a solar capacity of 400 megawatts, the project features a 220-kV shore-based booster station, a hydrogen generation plant with an hourly output of 1,500 standard cubic meters, and an electrochemical energy storage station with a capacity of 60 megawatts / 120 megawatt-hours.
The newly grid-connected storage station utilizes 27 battery cabins and 14 converter-transformer units, stepping voltage up to 220 kV for seamless grid integration. By capturing surplus midday photovoltaic generation to power evening hydrogen production and grid peak-shaving, State Grid Rudong County Power Supply Company manages real-time monitoring and smart dispatch. This flexible interaction stabilizes volatile coastal solar power while converting green electricity into valuable green hydrogen, reinforcing Jiangsu’`s leadership in sustainable energy.
