Pickering Nuclear Plant is one of the oldest facilities in the world. It came online in 1971 and has been safely providing power ever since. Pickering is located near Toronto, Ontario. It is run by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and consists of 8 reactors, a vaccum building, and uses the water from the Great Lake of Ontario. Pickering will be potentially shutting down entirely in the coming years due to its age. There are talks of refurbishment, refitting, and decommissioning. SMRs and restoration could be possible. The plant is gradually being taken offline and will take decades to close properly.
