Dec 31, 2025 - At 4,400 meters, China powers up two 1-GW solar stations in world`s largest clean energy base

Two 1-GW solar power stations, Suorong and Chabulang, were connected to the grid on December 31 in southwest China`s Yalong River Basin, as part of the world`s largest green, clean, renewable energy base. Built at 4,400 meters above sea level, the stations generates 3.9 billion kWh of clean power a year, enough to power a medium-sized city, and cutting coal use by 1.2 million tons and CO₂ by 3.1 million tons.
Solar panels are raised nearly two meters high, allowing yaks and sheep to graze underneath while also reducing soil water loss.
Using the world record 295-meter-level Lianghekou dam to regulate the unstable output from nearby wind and solar farms, Yalong River basin hydro-wind-photovoltaic multi-energy power base delivers steady clean power to China`s energy-hungry eastern and central provinces.
