Dec 18, 2025 - Green energy to satisfy our electricity needs Digitalization, gaming, AI, and electromobility are driving electricity demand to unprecedented levels. Forecasts show that consumption will more than double by 2045. At the same time, Germany aims to be climate-neutral by then. As early as 2030, around 80 percent of electricity is expected to come from renewable sources. Stable electricity prices and a future-proof energy supply independent of risky natural gas, oil, and coal imports are the goal. This is a monumental task that requires new solutions in generation and storage. But how do we achieve this? In our NANO documentary, "How Do We Satisfy Our Energy Hunger?", experts like Kathrin Goldammer from the Reiner Lemoine Institute in Berlin and Volker Quaschning, Professor of Renewable Energy Systems at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Economics, call for visionary technologies and research in addition to a clear strategy. And there are innovative approaches: from solar films for facades to batteries that are more powerful and cost-effective, to innovative storage solutions. NANO – the science magazine on 3sat |
