Apr 7, 2026 - Powering Communities: Making Connections with Southline
The Southline Transmission Project is addressing the challenge of transporting power to communities head on by building a 278-mile, high-voltage, bidirectional transmission line from New Mexico to Arizona to move electricity from where it`s generated to where it`s needed most to power homes and economic growth. Southline is bringing much needed new transmission capacity to the Southwest, a region where the U.S. Department of Energy`s (DOE) National Transmission Needs Study estimates that by 2030, 935 gigawatt-miles of new transmission is needed to ensure reliability and lower energy costs for consumers.
